Based on 13th century texts written by monks, Carl Orff's 1936 masterpiece celebrates medieval themes from the joys of love to the hazards of fortune. Alternately rhapsodic and rhythmic, this compelling work combines powerful orchestrations with glorious singing to create an emotionally moving experience.
In February, the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh collaborates for the first time with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra's new maestro, Manfred Honeck. Two weeks later, members of the Choir head up to Erie to join our friends of the Erie Philharmonic and Erie Philharmonic Chorus for an encore performance under the direction of Daniel Meyer, host and conductor for 2008's wildly popular "PSO Highmark Holiday Pops" concerts.
