Concert Promotion Tips

Here are some easy suggestions on ways to help promote our upcoming concert:

  1. Pass postcards out to coworkers and friends, then personally invite them to come hear you sing.
  2. Take posters to businesses in your neighborhood and ask to hang them up for a few weeks.  Churches, coffee shops, restaurants, and bookstores often welcome these community announcements.  (Remember to bring your own tape)
  3. Invite your church or school choir director and fellow singers--even if you don't sing in the choir!
  4. Ask to have our concert included in a newsletter or "upcoming events calendar" listing that you read.  Feel free to download the 'official' release from our website's Press section, or just give them the basic who, what, when, and where.
  5. Mail postcards to friends and family.  It's a great excuse to say hi to someone you may have been out of touch with... especially since you just have space for a short note and your regular first-class stamp.
  6. Download poster PDFs and other materials from our website.  You can print these out or just email them as attachments (but remember: some people are wary of opening email attachments).
  7. Send your own email invitation to individuals or a whole list of people to come hear us.   Modify text from the website, or from a choir email, and update it with your own voice.
  8. Forward a broadcast email from the choir on to your contacts.   We're currently setting up a broadcast email service, and everyone will be able to add contacts to our list via the choir website.
  9. Share the direct web link for the specific concert page rather than just the home page.  It has not only the big-picture info on the concert, but also links to interesting information and resources about the program.  ( yeah, for Elijah it's an ugly link :   http://www.themendelssohnchoir.org/0708Season/ELIJAHApril/tabid/73/Default.aspx )
  10. Lastly: Sell tickets!   Don't feel like you're putting pressure on anyone, or making a 'hard sell'.  You're just  inviting people to enjoy something you believe in strongly.   Closing the sale should be easy, since you'll be able to extend a performer's disount to people who are ready to buy in advance.  (Remember we're each asked to sell at least 5 tickets.)

Also, be sure to share your ideas with other singers, so we can piggy back on each other's efforts.   Here are some more suggestions:
