Anne Frank’s Legacy: Free Special Event

On Sunday, January 29 at 3pm, the Mendelssohn Choir invites everyone to Anne Frank: The Literary, Historical, & Musical Legacy at Rodef Shalom Congregation.  This event will closely explore both Anne and her diary’s place in history, in conjunction with the MCP’s upcoming performance of Annelies, the first authorized musical setting of Anne Frank’s Diary.

Led by author Helen Faye Rosenblum and historian and Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh Director Lauren Bairnsfather, the dialogue will examine the historical context of Anne Frank and her life in hiding in German-occupied Netherlands, and the challenges and opportunities provided by the transformation of literature and narrative into music. Soloist Amelia D’Arcy will speak about the process of preparation for the musical role, and a question and answer period will provide the audience a chance to engage as active participants in the conversation, in which all are invited to consider the truth and complexities of this universal story, its current significance and possible implications.

This event is FREE and open to the public, and there will be an opportunity to purchase tickets to the performance of Annelies.
