World-renowned composer and rock drumming legend Stewart Copeland gives us the rare opportunity to listen in on a unique moment in the artist’s creative process, the moment after he hears his vision leap off the page for the first time! Copeland comes to town in October to workshop his latest creation, Satan’s Fall, a work written for large chorus, that debuts with the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh (MCP) in February 2020. After his first rehearsals with the MCP and soloists, he will join local DJ Russ Rose of 102.5 WDVE and MCP music director Matthew Mehaffey on-stage at Mr. Smalls Theatre to talk about the experience and discuss the remarkable, multi-faceted musical journey that led him here. You, the audience, get to listen in and participate in a special Q & A!
Shortly after retiring from his role with The Police and his life as a Grammy-winning rock star, Copeland transitioned to writing for film and is now a prolific and seasoned composer of opera, ballet, and contemporary orchestral music as well. Don’t miss this exceptional opportunity to hear from one of the world’s most successful musicians and fascinating composers, LIVE!
Mr. Smalls Theatre is a short, 20 minute drive from downtown, and is the perfect casual, intimate venue to enjoy this special evening. Mr. Smalls has a fantastic bar and kitchen, and food and drink will be available for purchase throughout the evening. And just for fun, our friends there have created a “devilish” signature cocktail, courtesy of our latest sponsor, Casamigos (actor George Clooney’s new tequila brand).
