Berlioz’s Te Deum

The Mendelssohn Choir and Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, with Maestro Manfred Honeck, close out the 2017-2018 performance season with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra Premiere of Hector Berlioz‘s Te Deum.  The Te Deum was originally conceived at the penultimate piece of a symphony to commemorate Napoleon Bonaparte, but the finished product was dedicated to Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort.  The work was premiered in Paris in 1855, with Berlioz conducting an ensemble of 900-950 players.  Also on the program, world-renowed pianist Emanuel Ax performs Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5, “Emperor.”
