MCP Uplifting in Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony
The Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh (MCP) closed the 2018-2019 season in typical form: with another triumphant performance, this time Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (PSO). Under the baton of the PSO’s music director, Manfred Honeck, the MCP demonstrated its trademark musicality and virtuosity that had audiences leaping to their feet after each of the four performances. Expertly prepared by Robert Page Music Director Matthew Mehaffey, the MCP “provided, as always, a perfectly controlled explosion of sound and color” (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette) and “showed a keen ability to respond to Honeck’s direction” (bachtrack).
